Information Regarding Interpreter Services Through the HCA
Interpreter services are available through the Health Care Authority (HCA) for Medicaid health care professionals to gain access to skilled and qualified spoken language interpreters for Apple Health (Medicaid) clients who require assistance during their health care services. Providers are required to ensure spoken language access according to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Program Eligibility Requirements
For HCA to pay for interpreter services, the following criteria must be met:
The client is an eligible Apple Health client.
Services are covered under the client’s benefit package.
The health care provider is an enrolled HCA Medicaid provider.
HCA does not cover interpreter services for situations such as:
Inpatient hospital services
Nursing facility services
Administrative services (such as scheduling, reminder calls, or paperwork)
Family member interpreters
Interpretation provided by a provider’s own employee
For the complete and current list, see HCA’s Interpreter Services billing guide page. You are responsible for the cost of interpreter services for non-covered appointments.
